About Me

Hello there! My name is Vincent and I'm obsessed with coding!

I was introduced to the subject in January 2016 and by October I threw myself full time into my new passion. I started the 'Free Code Camp' online curriculum and within 5 months had completed all of the projects and algorithm challenges earning their Front End Certificate. It was definitely a struggle. But with the help of a few classes from 'Girl Develope It', countless 'Learn Teach Code' MeetUps, informative YouTube tutorials, weekly workshops through 'CodiePie', and thousands of Google searches, I was able to make it through. I now have a working knowledge of HTML, CSS, and JavaScript and am in the process of aquiring backend languages and going full stack in my abilities. I am also currently working as an intern at CodiePie and gaining invaluable on the job experience.

My coding journey has definitely been a challenging one. But one that has kept me fully engaged and satisfied. I love this new path and look forward to learning more and more in the time to come!

Here are thumbnail links to all of my projects. The first 9 are from FreeCodeCamp and the 10th one is the beginning of my own dream project: a Math Visualization web application to help students learn about tricky Math concepts!

Passions

DANCE- Probably my first love. I've danced ever since I was a child. I performed filipino folk dances growning up and that taught me about hard work and discipline. When I got to college, I started studying ballet, modern, and jazz through the California State University Long Beach Dance Department. There, I got the opportunity to preform in several pieces for the school's dance concerts as well choreograph my own work.

THEATRE- I started theatre when I was in High School. It was the perfect way to break out of my near paralysing shyness. I continued to dabble in college and even went to NYC and studied stage acting for a year. Since then, I've performed in community theatre and have written two plays that I have produced and directed through the Hollywood Fringe Festival.

YOGA- I spent about 6 years of my life dedicated to practicing and teaching Ashtanga yoga. The entire time I spent in flip flops and sweat pants. I also took 3 trips to India where I studied under Sri K. Pattabhi Jois. It was a magical time in my life and I'll always cherish those memories.

MATH- The subject of Math always came naturally to me. However, it only became exciting when, as a Math teacher, I was exposed to the new Common Core ways of teaching Math. Suddenly, I was drawing pictures to represent Math concepts and spending hours trying to figure out open ended problems that required me to think outside of the box. And once I figured something out, I had to be able to explain my findings to others. It's definitely a new and exciting approach to Math.
